NYC 3 (end of album shout outs)
I need to give a shout to all my peeps in NYC: A+E for providing a crash pad for Mel-L and me and for shepherding us around the city. Krissy for hanging out and introducing her beau Michael, gotta hang out more next time. Matt Ablon Kralovec for always being in Manhattan and taking me out like every night when I was totally haggered from work. Nate to the K for repping, gotta meet the lady friend next time. To all the ones I missed, I will be back with a vengence. I do not hate NYC. I do like it a lot.
NYC 2 (UNION SQ)
In the second leg of my NYC trip I was working and staying in Union Square. It is a great part of manhattan. There is a great farmers market and they actually have picnic tables along with so many benches in the park. People can sit and eat their lunch, it is very condusive to meandering. Since I started my new job I have been working on a popup retail project that was installed off of Union Sq. I stayed at the W Hotel, holy cow. The room was very comfortable which was much appreciated after working long hours. The work reminded me a bit of college, installing art shows with pieced together slide projections and building walls out of pvc and plastic wrap. This was much more HIFi. I designed kiosk and touchscreen interfaces that provided educational material and art directed an onscreen video piece as well as video projections which were to provide atmosphere to the exhibit. I had to leave before it was totally completed but it was a very rewarding project to work on. If you are in Union Sq. Check it out.
This video on youtube gives a pretty good scope of the project.
NYC 1 (BKLYN SOHO)
Last week I was in New York for work. Before working Mel-L and I were able to spend quality time with our big-apple friends. We did not really have enough time for touring around so we focused on Boerum Hill Brooklyn (Bergen St. stop on the f and g) and Soho. We soaked up that particular part of Brooklyn, it was perfect. It may be considered to be too upscale and not as hip as Williamsburg or something but whatevs it was nice. It was damn cute, such variety, convenient coffee shops and restaurants, bodegas, and tree lined streets. If you have read Fortress of Solitude by Jonathan Lethem, it is the same neighborhood but many years later. From Bklyn to Soho on a much more efficient train system than our CTA. Mostly shopping in Soho, I bought 2 new pairs of sneakers, and some various shirts. Mel-L saw Leo Dicaprio. I think Paul Smith is a genius and the alessi store is brilliant in its concept and lighting. Jack Spade is magical, Uniqlo had a linen gingham buttondown for me but was mostly a snooze. Empanadas were wonderful. Chilling in the park. Boozing. Sports. Garbage in the street, no alleys?
And all of a sudden it was vacationing in NYC!
Mell-L and I will be in NYC this weekend! Hooray!! I will be working there May 14th-16th right off of Union Square on a top secret mission. Holla at me to get the scoop. Keep posted for the 411.
er, WERK, jerk
I have been working so much. It is fine though, I do like what I am working on, and my team is great. In order to stay at work until 11:30 you have to be into the work, or you just get really pissed and request guns from walmart as my coworker did last night. Ha. Anyhow. I may be in NYC in the near future for worky times, but I am sure I will be seeing my NY peeps as well.
Keep your heads up.
Also, I am way into Photoshop collaged environments.
Union Square, NYC (very loose interpretation)
